The multimillion-dollar plans to reconstruct Monument Square in downtown Troy are looking ameliorate than ever at present that the seawall's restoration has been approved by the Federal Emergency Direction Agency, according to site developers.

Jeffrey Buell, president of Sequence Development, which is participating in the Monument Square construction, said repairing the seawall that protects downtown from flooding is a significant step forrad for the $xxx one thousand thousand project that will turn the one-time city hall site into new residential and retail space. Whether the site will include a new city hall is however under word.

The seawall was badly damaged by Tropical Storm Irene in 2022. U.Southward. Sen. Chuck Schumer had been pushing for FEMA's endorsement of the $half dozen.vii million in federal funding needed for repairs since April.

"This wasn't wasting money on some pet project," Buell said. "Without the seawall, the (Monument Square) project wouldn't be possible."

Buell anticipates the seawall repairs will coincide with the Monument Square reconstruction. Developers will come across with metropolis officials over the next few weeks to devise a time line for both projects.

Giovanni Palladino of Kirchoff-Consigili, a structure company participating in the Monument Square development, said the designs for the site are even so in the planning stages.

"We are still investigating the site and looking at infrastructure items, and that volition determine our next footstep," he said.

Palladino said the seawall project's blessing volition benefit the planning process, noting how important the seawall is to the Monument Foursquare site.

"I'chiliad encouraged by the news," he said. "It'south critical for that seawall to be complete because of the logistics between our building and that seawall."
